What Are Primal Foods?
Primal foods are the foods our ancient ancestors ate and thrived on seven generations ago and beyond. These foods consisted largely of two modern day demonized substances: saturated fats from animals raised on pasture and cholesterol.
Since these two nutrients have been shunned from our diets, we have seen escalating rates of many illnesses, both acute and chronic. We have seen the birth of cancer, heart disease, hormonal disorders, obesity and autoimmune conditions.
We have seen increasing rates of infertility and a host of other man-made health disorders all heavily influenced by our modern diet and exposure to man-made poisons. These are all largely a result of our modern diet.
Why A Deficiency Of Saturated Fat And Cholesterol Lead To Imbalance In The Body
All of our cell membranes are primarily made-up of saturated fats and cholesterol. At a very basic level, if we do not feed our cells what they're made of, they will not thrive, they will not have long, vibrant lifespans nor will they be able to perform the tasks they are designed to accomplish.
Straying away from our Primal Nutritional roots is the number one most overlooked cause of chronic and degenerative disease including: digestive distress, chronic fatigue, diabetes, migraine headaches, insomnia, anxiety, ADD, Alzheimer's, candida, and acute conditions such as pneumonia, MRSA and staph.
Food For Thought
Our brains contain over twenty-five percent of our body's cholesterol. When our diets contain even moderate amounts of carbohydrates or sugar, we tend to experience brain-fog, fatigue, sluggish digestion, and even moodiness. This is because the brain and the gut, two very interconnected organs, are not obtaining the nutrients they need to function at optimal levels.
However, if we can revert to a Primal, ancient way of eating, the way our ancestors ate not one, not two, not even four generations ago, but seven plus generations ago, we will begin to bring our mind and body back into balance.
We Are Biologically Wired To Thrive On Saturated Animal Fats
Our body's are programmed to eat saturated animal fats and cholesterol from animals raised on pasture. We have been eating these Primal foods for decades whereas, we have been eating processed, packaged and nutrient deficient foods such as carbohydrates (carbs) and sugar for a very short period of time in comparison. Our body's do not know what to do with sugar, fortified foods, wheat or carbs. We cannot absorb these foods and our body's are not programmed to survive on these modern day foods.
When we eat nutrient deficient foods, we go against our body's natural way of being. This is because these modern day foods, rich in carbs, starches, fruit and sugar, require our body to burn glucose as fuel. Burning glucose as fuel is not our body's preferred way of burning fuel. Instead, it is our body's back-up system to be called upon in times of famine.
Eating a Primal foods diet will change the type of fuel you burn. After eating Primal foods for a prolonged period of time, your body will switch from burning glucose as fuel to burning ketones and fats. Burning ketones and fats as fuel is our body's preferred way of metabolizing our food. There are numerous wellness benefits to burning ketones and fats as fuel, contrary to modern blind beliefs. Our entire body thrives on these Primal fuel sources and burns much cleaner fuel when we eat a diet low in carbs, starches, fruits and sugar.
Dissolving Dietary Blind Beliefs
To truly embrace a Primal foods way of eating, we need to start by dissolving dietary blind beliefs. All of the false information that we have been fed is fear based and is based on bad science. It is these blind beliefs that keep us stuck in a detrimental downward spiral of sickness.
We need to create a new dietary paradigm and that begins with each one of us being open and willing to revert to a Primal way of eating. When one begins to eat the Primal foods way, they often notice just how different their body feels compared to when they ate modern foods. The proof really is in the high fat pudding, but just in case anyone needs a little extra proof, here are some resources to help you get started.
